Lost in immigration, the art and cultural heritage of South Asian immigrants in Canada
The Lost in Immigration Society intends to preserve the art and cultural heritage of South Asian immigrant families in Canada. It is passionately dedicated to promoting, showcasing, and building an awareness of the arts and artists whose heritage lies in the performing arts, visual arts, culinary arts, literary arts, folk arts of the Indian subcontinent.
We are trying to build a community in Vancouver, BC. Come join us in our efforts, to bring people together to celebrate South Asian art and culture.
Moving to Canada is an emotional rollercoaster for us South Asian immigrants, often meaning saying goodbye to our cherished art and cultural heritage. Amidst the whirlwind of new opportunities, there's this unspoken pressure to fit in, sometimes causing our traditions to slowly slip away. Language barriers, scarce resources, and the urge to blend in make the transition even tougher. But, as part of LII Society, we're not letting our culture fade into the background. We're all about sparking real conversations and building connections within our community. Through our heartfelt initiatives and genuine dialogue, we're striving to make a difference and keep our cultural flame burning bright in our new Canadian home.
"When cultural heritage is lost, it is not just the physical structures that are destroyed, but a part of our collective memory, our identity, and our connection to the past."
- Romila Thapar
Our cultural heritage is the cornerstone of our identity and a vital link to our past. When we lose these cultural treasures, we lose pieces of our shared memory and the traditions that shape who we are. It’s not just about preserving buildings and artifacts; it’s about maintaining our collective story and ensuring that future generations understand and appreciate our rich history.
We invite you to join us in our efforts to protect and revive our cultural heritage. By coming together as a community, we can safeguard our traditions, celebrate our shared identity, and pass on the beauty and significance of our culture to future generations. Let's unite to cherish and sustain our heritage, building a stronger, more connected community for all.
