Title: Baat-Cheet: Feminist Poetry & Film
Date: October 25, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM onwards
Location: 1068 Hornby Street, Vancouver
Entry: Free!
This event will be a special evening combining feminist poetry and film, giving us a chance to reflect on the resilience of South Asian women through art and storytelling.
Here’s what we’ve planned:
Feminist Poetry Recital:
We’ll begin the evening by listening to impactful feminist poetry from India. These poems will give voice to women’s experiences and struggles, highlighting the strength and spirit of resistance in South Asian feminism.Film Screening - Khoj:
We will screen Khoj, a short film by Kajri Babbar, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2018 and was a semi-finalist at the Student Academy Awards 2018. The film tells the heartbreaking yet empowering story of a young Punjabi bride who, after being abandoned and betrayed, embarks on a journey of redemption. Shot in both Punjab and the UK, Khoj explores themes of abandonment and hope, in a dual-language narrative (Punjabi & English).Group Discussion:
Following the screening, we will host a discussion on the film’s themes of abandonment, empowerment, and how they relate to the broader feminist movement in South Asia. We invite the audience to share their thoughts and engage in this important conversation.
✨ Free entry and popcorn!
